Windows Vista Enterprise includes Windows BitLocker™ Drive Encryption, a new technology that helps prevent sensitive data and intellectual property from falling into the wrong hands if a computer is lost or stolen. Windows BitLocker uses hardware-based data encryption technology that gives you peace of mind by protecting your company’s intellectual property and strategic information assets. In addition, Windows BitLocker reduces the cost associated with decommissioning end of life PCs by encrypting the entire hard drive.

Application compatibility
Windows Vista Enterprise includes built-in tools to improve application compatibility with previous versions of Microsoft operating systems, as well as with UNIX-based systems. The Windows Vista Enterprise license includes the facility to run four virtual operating system sessions: this enables you to run legacy applications on a legacy Windows operating system in a virtual environment within Windows Vista Enterprise. This feature saves you time and money if you are unable to easily migrate a legacy application directly to Windows Vista.

To simplify UNIX integration, Windows Vista Enterprise includes Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA), which enables you to run UNIX applications unchanged on a Windows Vista Enterprise-based PC. Whereas today a UNIX database administrator or system administrator needs a UNIX workstation in addition to a Windows-based PC, Windows Vista Enterprise enables consolidation of both functions onto a single Windows Vista-based PC.

To help minimise application compatibility challenges, Windows Vista Enterprise customers can subscribe to the Desktop Optimisation Pack for Software Assurance.<please confirm underlined text is a package offered by Microsoft: we have not been able to verify> This service can accelerate application deployment, using tools such as SoftGrid for application virtualisation, which can reduce application-to-application conflicts. With Asset Inventory Services, you can quickly compile information about software and applications running inside your organisation.

Multi-language support
Windows Vista Enterprise enables a PC’s interface language to be set according to the preferences of the user. Access to all worldwide Windows interface languages enables organisations to build a single deployment image that can be used worldwide, and to deploy individual PCs that simultaneously offer different interface languages for different users.
